Individuals, during their social life acquire certain knowledge and skills. Personal and professional development is not always linked with structured and preliminary planned education sector. Non- formal education process is applicable to any sector, to any interested individual, in any age. Consequently, non-formal education, along with the formal sector, plays significant role in the development of human capital in the country and therefore education systems, in all countries, support their recognition, in any form.
The Law on Vocational Education defines non-formal education as part of the lifelong learning system, which involves the acquisition of "knowledge and understanding", "skills" and / or "responsibility and autonomy" beyond formal education;
The Georgian education system allows the recognition of learning outcomes achieved within the non-formal education at the level of vocational education, only in non-regulated professions. The purpose of recognizing non-formal education is to validate the learning outcomes achieved beyond the formal education, for lifelong learning, personal development, further education and / or qualification and / or employment / career growth / self-employment.
Recognition of non-formal education is ensured by the institution implementing the vocational education program and the legal entity authorized to implement the vocational training / retraining program, if the organization meets the requirements set for awarding the right to recognition of non-formal education.
